Results of Ray-Tracing the Wavelength Calibration of the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph
We describe the results of Code-V ray-tracing of the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) to improve the wavelength calibration. For the IRS Short-hi and Long-hi modules, the RMS in Δλ (observed calculated) for measured lines has been significantly improved from the purely empirical solution, to 0.125 pixels and 0.091 pixels, respectively. For the Short-lo and Long-lo modules, the RMS is reduced...
متن کاملSTIS Calibration Enhancement: Wavelength Calibration and CTI
The Instrument Physical Modeling Group in the Space Telescope European Co-ordinating Facility has undertaken to examine aspects of STIS calibration and develop physical model based solutions where appropriate. Here we discuss two such aspects and the status of the model based solutions. The first concerns the derivation of dispersion solutions for the echelle spectroscopy modes. The second corr...
متن کاملWavelength calibration of a high resolution spectrograph with a partially stabilized 15-GHz astrocomb from 550 to 890 nm.
A visible astrocomb spanning 555-890 nm has been implemented on the 10-m Southern African Large Telescope, delivering complete calibration of one channel of its high-resolution spectrograph and an accurate determination of its resolving power. A novel co-coupling method allowed simultaneous observation of on-sky, Th-Ar lamp and astrocomb channels, reducing the wavelength calibration uncertainty...
متن کاملInternal to external wavelength calibration
The spectra of Hen 1357 (the Stingray nebula) were used to check the internal to external wavelength calibration of the STIS first order CCD modes. The radial velocity of the Stingray nebula is known to high accuracy (< 1 km/sec) and the line with of the nebular line is very narrow (< 8 km/sec for the integrated nebula). Thus the observations of the Stingray nebula are ideal to check the intern...
متن کاملCalibration concept for the JWST Near - infrared Spectrograph ( NIRSpec )
This document provides a discussion of the basic calibration needs and calibration time consumption for the Near Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec) on JWST. The current version assumes that slits for multi object spectroscopy will be formed via a microelectromechanical system and that NIRSpec will carry internal continuum and line lamps.
